As North Americans have put away their Christmas decorations, started their New Year’s resolutions, and gone back to work and school, people in Russia are still celebrating. Following the Julian calendar, January 7th marked the Orthodox Christmas. Photographer Kristina Makeeva took to the streets of Moscow to capture the magic that happens. Her images seem to come from a fairy-tale land where everything seems to sparkle and twinkle. The 27-year-old says, “this holiday is another reason to look back to my country’s history which is inextricably entwined with the Orthodox faith.” Their holiday season looks like nothing we have ever seen.
