Sherlock Holmes played by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch refers to himself as a "high-functioning sociopath."
Ten years ago, actor and Sherlock co-creator, Mark Gatiss spoke at the Sherlock Holmes Society’s annual dinner. It was there that Gatiss revealed to the audience his idea of a modern day Holmes. He teased them with the storyline of a “young army doctor, wounded in Afghanistan finds himself alone and friendless in London.” Short of cash, he bumps into an old medical acquaintance who tells him he knows of someone looking for a flatmate. This bloke’s alright but “a little odd,” Gatiss pitched the audience. Those dining at the House of Parliament in the United Kingdom, know everything there is to know about the world’s most famous detective, if they were not interested there was no point in pursuing the idea further. Luckily, for the rest of us, they loved the storyline. Sherlock will make its season four debut on January 1, 2017. For diehard fans, this may seem like a torturous long time. Nonetheless, if they can wait two years between season three in 2014 and a one episode special in 2016, a couple of weeks is a piece of cake. Last year the National Autistic Society described Sherlock's inability to read and understand social norms points to him being on the spectrum. Although in "The Hounds of Baskerville” episode, his best friend John Watson describes Sherlock as having Asperger's syndrome.
If you are channeling your inner Sherlock Holmes, you may want to watch the trailer for season four and try to come out with your own deductions.
